Vicki Taylor, Director
The First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa 4 O' Clocks Free Concert Series continues on Sunday, May 5 with Jubilate Chorale under the direction of Vicki Taylor. “Unclouded Day” featuring songs of hope, joy, and inspiration, will start at 4:00 p.m. in the Nave of First Congregational Church, 1511 Church Street, in Wauwatosa. There is no admission charge, but donations are gladly accepted.
Directed by Vicki Taylor and accompanied by keyboard artist Becky Whelpley, Jubilate Chorale will be performing Maurice Durufle’s Ubi Caritas along with works by contemporary composers Ola Gjeilo, Paul Mealor, Josu Elberdin, and Morton Lauridsen. Also included are Eriks Ešenvalds setting of Sara Teasdale’s poem Stars, for choir and tuned water glasses, Shawn Kirchner’s Heavenly Home: Three American Songs, and The Road Home by Stephen Paulus. Jubilate Chorale will be joined by saxophonist Dave Erato on several pieces.
Jubilate Chorale is an auditioned ensemble of experienced singers whose repertoire is chosen from a wide range of time periods and genres with emphasis on the a cappella tradition. They have frequently collaborated with area groups including The Nordic Brass, Hesternus Early Music Consort, the Children’s Choir of Waukesha, and the Waukesha Choral Union. Additionally, the chorale has appeared by invitation at the Wisconsin Choral Directors Convention, and with the Wisconsin Philharmonic Orchestra, Concord Chamber Orchestra, and Hartland Community Band. The Chorale was founded in 1993 by Dr. Mark Aamot, Professor Emeritus at Carroll University.
Vicki Taylor is in her eleventh season as director of the Jubilate Chorale. Choirs under her direction have previously performed in New York, London and Canterbury, England, as well as throughout the greater Milwaukee area. Having recently retired as a school choral director, she currently serves as Director of Music Ministries and organist at Ascension Lutheran Church in Waukesha. Taylor earned her undergraduate degree from the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music, and has completed graduate courses at Westminster Choir College.
Dr. Patrick Dill, First Church Music Director, extends an invitation to the audience to meet the performers at an informal reception in the Friendship Lounge following the performance.
Rev. William S. Trump, Senior Minister, said, "For more than a decade, First Congregational Church has presented the 4 O’ Clocks Free Concert Series. These free musical presentations are another important way we reach out to our community. Music is a unifying language that can bring diverse cultures together. We hope you visit us for these performances."
Trump continued, “First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa is celebrating 175 years in the community. Like our Pilgrim forebears, we offer our church as a meeting house, as well as a place for worship. We are modern pilgrims seeking faith, freedom and fellowship for a meaningful Christian experience in the 21st century. Come see who we are and what we are about.”
All concerts start promptly at 4:00 pm and there is no charge; however, donations are gladly accepted.
